Dry eyes – what to do?

When our eyes do not produce enough lacrimal fluid, they become itchy and burn. This is an incredible disruption to everyday life. Yet dry eyes can usually be treated quite easily – read here what you can do against them.

Lubricating eye drops: the quick aid in case of emergency!

The symptoms of dry eyes often arise just when we really need fully-functioning eyes: during the day at the office, at uni or while driving home from work. That is when rapid relief is required. Replacement lacrimal fluid in the form of eye drops is the right choice.

HYLO FRESH® lubricating eye drops with hyaluronan and eyebright help tired and stressed eyes achieve new freshness. They top up the depleted tear film and lubricate the surface of the eye so that symptoms like itching and burning subside.

What can you do? Maintain a healthy lifestyle!

Too little sleep, an unhealthy diet and constant stress are neither good for us nor our bodies. Even the eyes suffer from an unhealthy lifestyle. Usually this is noticeable in the morning, when your eyes are swollen, tired and reddened after waking up. But don’t worry, you do not have to turn your world upside down – it is quite enough to pay attention to a few small details:

  • Get enough sleep. How many hours can be suggested as enough differs from person to person. Some people get along with seven hours per night, some need nine in order to start the day fit. Try to find out how much sleep you need and stick to it as often as you can.
  • Drink more. You should drink around two litres a day. The ideal choice is mineral water, unsweetened teas or diluted fruit juices.
  • Eat a healthy and balanced diet. Nutrition has an effect on the quality and amount of tear film. Above all, omega-3 fatty acids (present in such things as cold-water fish like herring, mackerel and salmon as well as linseed oil) and omega-6 fatty acids (in safflower, soya and sunflower oils) take centre stage.
  • Avoid stress. Try to take a small break to relax several times a day. For example, go for a walk in the fresh air during your lunch break. This is not only good for your soul, the oxygen is also important for your eyes.

Err on the side of caution: visit an eye doctor

If you have dry eyes, consult an eye doctor to be on the safe side because the symptoms could have diverse causes. Together, you and your eye doctor can develop a tailor-made therapy especially for you, to relieve your symptoms.

In addition, you can take a short online test to find out which eye drops are suitable for you.
